ISSUE RESOLVED – MAY 15, 2019 – LRA Encrypted Email

Exchange Email Connection issues – Users receive an error “Site cannot be reached” when trying to connect to their mailboxes. Users are also unable to access Skype for Business, Email Archiving and other services. Administrators cannot manage their account services through Control Panels.

Expected Resolution of Issue: We will provide regular updates until this matter is resolved.

Update – 5/16/19 7:37 AM – The access to your email has now been restored. We apologize for the disruption that this incident may have caused. Please note that no loss of data occurred and that your eMail account is restored with all incoming eMails fully queued in your inbox. We made the difficult decision to take a subset of email accounts offline yesterday when our security team alerted us of unusual activity on one of our domains. While cybercriminals continuously advance their hacking techniques, we are also committed to protecting the security and data of our customers. Later today we will follow-up with further details about the incident, the decisions made, and the precautions taken. If you are still not able to access your eMail account, please contact us at 1.248.486.6033 (option 1)..

Update – 5/15/19 9:32 AM – We don’t have a firm ETA as to when connectivity will be restored, we expect the domain to be unavailable for many hours, perhaps the business day.

Summary of issue: Exchange, Skype for Business, Email Archiving, and other services are temporarily unavailable for users located on EXCH080 domain. Administrators cannot manage account services through Control Panels. All inbound emails are queued and will be delivered once services are restored.

Technical Details: The protection of your organization’s information is our top priority. In the past few hours, our Security team identified suspicious activity in the EXCH080 domain which is where your account resides. In order to mitigate any potential security risks, we immediately blocked access from the Internet. The decision to do so is not made lightly as we realize this can be very disruptive to your business. For this we sincerely apologize. However, with the ever-increasing sophistication of cyberattacks, there are times when tough, protective decisions such as this must be made in order to help keep your critical and confidential data safe, undamaged, and from falling into the wrong hands. Our System Administrators, Security Experts, and Technical teams continue to analyze server logs in order to identify the root cause and are taking further remediation steps to allow safe connection to the server. Although we don’t have a firm ETA as to when connectivity will be restored, we expect the domain to be unavailable for many hours, perhaps the business day. While you are always free to contact us, there is nothing further they can assist with regarding this matter. We will of course provide regular updates until this matter is resolved. At Intermedia, we invest heavily in the people and technology that keep your information safe and secure. We will continue to do so in our proactive fight against data breaches and disruptions.
